After more investigation, I realized one instructional design that I don’t really like is those kind that they just kind of put all facts there and students learn that way. It is really like learning by reading all information and doing exercises to check ones own understandings. It is like reading some digitalized textbooks. I myself find it boring already when I look at some of those simple lessons. I can’t image high school kids or even younger sitting in front of the computer and clicking through all the slides and learning all contents. However, I don’t really know how to make it better, more interactive and cognitive learning environment.
Another funny thing I noticed is that online courses will not miss a class. Last week, we had a snow day in TC, and now I come back to Taiwan for Asian Lunar New Year. But there is no excuses to miss classes!!! haha...

Yes, online classes are relentless!!
ReplyDeleteBut that is also what's potentially good about them because students in online classes can't sit at the back of the room and not talk, as can happen in f2f classes.
Students will always miss a class, lol.
ReplyDeleteYes - many courses I have seen and taken are merely distance courses via the web.
This experience is a nice blend for me as we get to blog and get to know one anothers thoughts - like this.
I do like the fact that textbooks, art supplies, and science equipment are sent to students when need be - keeping learning physical and kinesthetic, but you make great points.
